A remarkable foat of surgery performed at Birmingham General Hospital was disclosed at the Assizes, when Mr. William Robert Young, a tool-maker, was awarded £700 damages against Mr. Joseph mrnett, whose- motor-car came into collirion with Mr. Young's motor-cycle. When Mr. Young was admitted to the Hospital he was unconscious, and suffering from paralysis of the left side caused by a clot of blood. Two operations were performed by Dr. Scott, and a patch of skull nearly four inches by two inches was lifted. Mr. Young, in consequence, regained the use of his limbs, and it is hoped by a third operation yet to be performed to replace the thin tissue of skin over the injured area by a piece of bone taken from another part of Mr. Young's body. £600,000,000 were sold last year to the American public on the instalment plan.
