' In his summing up he says: "There is; more wisdom in the .proposals of this pamphlet and more' nope of :Balyation for the Empire than jn all the-one-sided, short-sighted, half■measures['•of all the politicians put together.'* ' Articles have appeared in "Business-Organisation," "The Accountant," "The Banker," "The Economist,' 1 "The Spectator," "The Times," and in other publications that are widely, read by men of business. •"The Vaider ; Scheme as Applied to the Coal Industry" is the subject of an article in " The Co-operativo News," written by Mr. W; Tudor D.avies. Father: Paul Bull, of Mirfield, one of the b'esMcno:wn Church writers on social matters, has brought out a book called "The Economics of the Kingdom of God." In this he reviews ajl the many profitrsharing and co-opera-tive schemes —there are something like 280 of them—of Great Britain and America,' but' he gives the Valder schemo pride of place as being nearest, in the ..writer fa-, opinion, to a true solu^. tiori. ( The book has been published by Messrs. : , Allen; "and Unwin. . . The. Archbishop. of Canterbury, who was . approached by ,Bishop Gore, has studied the New Zealand Act. In a personal, letter he says he has read .the booklet with great/interest, and that he thinks the plan very simple to agiaspy 'However, not claiming to be an expert in .;such _ matters, he has con-, suited with friends who are experts in economics. Later on his Grace will be ; very glad to see Mr. Valder and Mr. Harty and:- have a talk about it. .. f PUBLICITY IN PULPIT. : During-, the session of the Kotarian ;.Cqnference at Margate—where- New Zealand representatives- included Messrs. H. .Valder, F. Harty, Charles Rhodes, and E. P. Cowles (Hamilton)-^ Mr. Harty .was invited to preach in the' parish church. This invitation he accepted, and as a result wide publicity was obtained for the Valder scheme, as the sermon .later appeared verbatim in the newspapers. Mi. Harty lias spoken already- at several Kotary Club luncheons, and he has a number of other similar engagements in and near London. , His subject always rotates round "the New' Zealand Act. ■.. .Mr, Harty will be working in a London "slum" parish during the winter. The Ecv. E. Dawson, vicar of the Church of the Holy Redeemer, Farrington street, Clerkwell, is going away for five months, and the vicar of Hamilton will' take his place. Ho will share the work and the responsibilities with the currite, and will live'with him at ■the clefgy;- housoi' 'Mr. Harty begins •work -in -November,' and expects to re-- • maih -in 1- the- parish until the end of. ■April;; He was1 desirous of having, the' experience' of- somo such work, and ' through the interest/of Bishop Gore the present arrangement was effected. ; S3, Fleet street.' - . ■ .
