MARANUI SURF CLUB'S SUCCESS

The competition for the Nelson Shield (New Zealand Life-saving championship) was decided at Napier in January of this year, states the annual report of the Royal Life-saving Society, and resulted _ follows:—Maranui Surf Club (Wellington), first, with 165 points out of a possible 185; Lyall Bay Surf Club (Wellington), second, 163 points. The Nelson Shield was given to the Hawkes Bay lujad centre by Mr. William Nelson, vice-presi-dent, in 1914, and handed to the council by the centre for a New Zealand championship competition. Previous winners have been: Hawkes Bay, Canterbury (1920----21), New Brighton Surf Club (1922-23), Maranui Surf Club, and Lyall Bay Surf Club.
