PETONE BEAT OLD BOYS.
After the first few minutes of play there was but small doubt that Petone would easily beat Old Boys, and the final score of 30 points to 9 in favour of the home team pretty well indicates the relative merits of the two teams on the clay's play. Soon after the kick-off Old Boys scored, but Petone were not long in equalising, and in adding still further to their score. At half-time Petone were leading by 13 points to 3, but Old Boys never gave up the struggle, and scored twice more during the second spell. Petone, had the passing of their backs been a little more precise than it was, especially in the initial stages of the game, might easily have registerd a larger score, but a heavy ground and slippery ball told their tale. Both G. and H. E. Nicholls wero prominent on the winning side, and Spence's kicking was very Sound. For Old Boys Grenfell and Bedell played sterling games, and with more support would have done better still. ■
