CHABGB OP FALSE PKETENCES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, 2nd July. If the schemes of Edward Hedley Kitchener Hughes, formerly a postal official, had not gone away, unsuspecting people might have imagined him a valued Government officer. He represented himself to a private hotelkeeper as an auditor of the Public Trust, having previously telephoned to say .that a' inspector was arriving", and produced iin alleged telegram from the Minister of Finance as to his status. On a charge of forging this document and obtaining £1 10s credit, the accused was remanded to Monday. The police stated that he had already; been, on probation. J
