Her Excellency Lady Alice Fergusson . visited Point Halswoll on Friday afternoon and presented first aid and home nursing certificates of the St. John Ambulance Association at the Borstal Institute. This afternoon (Saturday) the Gov-ernor-eGneral will be present at the Association football mateh —Wellington, versus Auckland—.on the Basin Reserve Ground. . hTeir Excellencies will attend the races at Trentham on Tuesday and Thursday,.6th and Bth July, and will also bo present at the Wellington Racing Club's ball on the latter date,

His Excellency will perform the opening ceremony of the Welington Winter Show and Industrial Exhibition in the Harbour Board sheds at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday, 10th instant.

Irf consequence of the appointment of Mr. C. A. Borendscn to the Prime Minister's . Department, Mr. A. E. Waite, officer in charge of the Labour Department's Christchurch. branch, and formerly second clerk in the Head Office, is carrying out the duties of chief clerk, pending the appointment of Mr. Berendscn's successor..

The death occurred at his residence, Plimmorloii, on Thursday of Mr. G. W. D. Morris. Mr." Morris was born "in Wellington on 6th February, 1841, and at the time of his death was said to be the oldest native of this city. Ho had recollections of attending an oldfashioned "dame school" somewhere near Hobson- street. The rest of his schooldays were spent in . Auckland, where he also learnt his trade as a carpenter and builder.- The golden wedding of the late. Mr. and Mrs. Morris was celebrated at Pliniinerton on 4th May, 1915. Mr. Morris' was one of the oldest members of the Order of Oddfellows in the Dominion. His family are represented by Messrs. G. W.. D. Morris (Marton), A. C. Morris (Wanganui), Mesdames W. AVilson (Hunterville), H. J. Fletcher (JSTortnanby), J. A. Fraser (Nelson), and Miss Morris (Plimmerton).

An old resident of New Zealand, Mr. W. E. Moore, formerly a warrant officer of the Eoyal Artillery, died at his residence, Bidwell street, yesterday afternoon. Mr. Moore, who was in his seventieth year, had been in the Dominion for over fifty years. His father, Captain P. G. Moore, arrived from England with a young family in the 'forties, and was connected with many stirring events of the early days. The lato Mr. W. E. Moore was an officer of the Boyal New Zealand Artillery for thirty years, and when the Great War came it fell to his lot as a warrant officer to supervise the mounting of modern guns on troopshipß and transports. Ho retired from the Defence Service a few' years ago on superannuation. He leaves a widow, Mrs. E. J. Moore, prominently associated with women's movements. and soldier welfare activities in Wellington; a daughter, Miss Carrie Moore; and a son, Mr. F. W. Howard Moore, who served in the Eoyal Naval Ecserve during the war as a sublieutenant, and who ia now in business in the South Island. The deceased is also survived by a sister (Mrs. C. Morris, of Kilbirnic) and a brother (Mr. Fred. Moore, of Auckland).
