13 THERE NEED FOR A TUNNEL?
In view of the growth of mor.v-bus transport in "Wellington, the Seatoun and Bays Progressive Association appears to .doubt the need of another tunnel. At the meeting of that body held last evening, I." H. P. Eawson presiding, -it was resolved: "That this association considers that the tunnel proposed through Mount .Victoria be, in the first place a traffic tunnel, irrespective of the question of tram service, and that the route for any such tunnel should be considered and fixed by an independent engineers' commission, thus avoiding any suspicion of vested interests; and in view of the improved condition of the Evans Bay road, and the advent of motor buses, which are an increasing mode of transport, the committee consider the tunnel may not bo fully warranted."
