SAWMILLS CLOSED OWING TO DAMAGE

TAUMARUNUI, This Day.

The rain held off all day yesterday, but fell heavily again last night. The rivors, however, have not risen abnormally, and the smaller streams appear to have caused the most damage. Ellis and Burnand's sawmill at Manunui has closed down for a day or two while repairs are made to the tram line, about a mile from Manunui. At this spot a wash-out occurred, and the line is' suspended in midair. The Pukuweka sawmill will probably be closed down for some time owing to the damage done yesterday to its bridges. This will throw a large number of men out of work.
