A QUINNAT FOR CANADA
The Canadians are to see one of Now Zealand's quinnat salmon, says the Christchurch "Sun." Mr. C. W. Hervey, secretary of the North. Canterbury Acclimatisation Society, has recevied a telegram from Mr. j. G. Collins, Government Commissioner, asking if the mounted quinnat salmon, eaughi; by Mr. J. G. S. Holmes in the Eakaia River in 1922 could be : sent for exhibition at Toronto. The fish weighed 401b, and was in splendid condition when it was caught. Mr. Holmes consented to the request, and the fish will be forwarded immediately. The biggest quinnat caught in the ■ Southern rivers have :been much of a weight. One caught by Mr. Pickett in the Rangitata this season weighed 421b, and the record for the WaitaM Kiver is held by Mr. H. Jackson, who landed one 39}lb. Mr. Jackson also holds the record season's catch, in the first year that the quinnat fishing was thrown open, of 42 fish, •weighing just short of quarter of a ton, in eleven days. This season he has caught 29, but the biggest was.only 211b. ...
