In the Davis Cup contest the first round it Tjeing played at Stitton, between Portu--I^l and South Africa. Don Jose de Verda (Portugal) beat Lezard (South Africa), 0-3, 6-2, 6-1; P. D. B. Spence (South Africa) beat Antonio Casanovas (Portugal), 6-1. 0-1, 6-4. In the doubles Spence and Lezard (South Africa) beat Don Jose de Verda and Frcdterico de Vasconcellas (Portugal), (5-1, 64, 6-2.
