BRITISH SUBSIDY
EFFECT'ON GERMAN MINES.
(Sydney Sun Cable.) (Received 3rd May, 11 a.m.)
BERLIN, 2nd May.
Herr Schreider, Minister of Trade, told the Prussian Diet that the English coal subsidy .had caused the squandering of coal by selling at cost price, resulting in thirty-eight Ruhr coal mines being closed, throwing idle tens of thousands. He added that German mining must be saved from the results of the English subsidy.
■ The "Daily Mail" interprets this declaration to mean that Germany is considering banning British imports in the event of a continuance of the subsidy.
