ENGLISH THEATRE

RUINED BY WOMEN

IRVINE'S STRONG CRITICISM,

(United Press Association—Copyright.) (Australian-New Zealand Cable Assn.) (Received 3rd May, 9 a.m.)

LONDON, 2nd May.

Mr. St. John Ervine, speaking at Birmingham, declared that the English theatre was being ruined by women, and a law should immediately bo introduced forbidding the admittance of any woman under 40, and the attendances of those older should be restricted to two yearly. Most of the London audiences were women. "A play which is daring always draws crowds of women, ravenous-looking women, clawing their way in," he concluded amidst shouts and protests, boldly asserting that women were inadequate companions for men who were their intellectual superiors.
