ATHLETIC v. BERHAMPORE.

Athletic and Berhampore took the field at Athletic Park, both teams having undergone some change since the previous Saturday. Berhampore were strong in forward' but showed weaknesses in the rearguai\ and these weak points were costly when Athletic were able to keep clear of the opposition van. Throughout a fairly strenuous first spell Berhampore held the upper hand, mainly by reason of splendid play by the forwards. The backs were toed out frequently, but were at fault. On occasions Athletic were able to turn the tide, only to find that Berhampore ■ were able to resist stoutly, the tackling being especially good. At half-time, however, Berhampore were only one point up on Athletic. Glennie had kicked a penalty goal, and Taylor had scored an un- v converted try, while Hughes had scored a try for Athletic, as the result of a great dash by Svenson, who supplied the extras. 6—5. . For some time after the interval the outlook remained to Berhampore, but when Porter kicked a penalty goal from about eight yards inside halfway, Athletics prospects were brightened. The definite, turning point was supplied by Taylor (Athletics full-back) in making.a: brilliant dash from his own twenty-five to score a try after receiving some assistance from Tait. There was no conversion. Further fast play, with the Athletic backs —and forwards at times —throwing the ball about in delightful fashion, had Berhampore bustled. Sutton scored another try for Athletic, Svenson converting with a fine kick. Berhampdre's forwards made retaliation, and Dunn scored an unconverted try, but after this Athletic ran out easy winners, Edgar scoring a try which. Svenson converted^ and Taylor (whose sparkling play had been a feature o5 the match) potting a goal. The latter effort was made while the line umpire's flag was hoisted unnoticed by the referee. The final score was: Athletic, 25; Berhampore o. ■;.: ■■.- ■"..: Mr. T.: A. Fletcher was. tEe referee..
