GIRL GAINS CHESS TROPHY
.. Miss VeraiMenchik, the young Bu£sian chess player, won the girls' tournament held recently at the Imperial Chess Cluby London, and now holds for the first year the challenge cup presented by Lady Margaret Hamilton Eussell. She accounted in quite convincing style for :each> of her rivals, finishing with four victories. Miss M. Brown and Miss 6. Menehik tied for second place, with :;tw6' victories each. The former ' won second place on the play-off. At the close of the tournament the winner made her first essay in simultaneous chess, playing thirteen experienced members of the club. Selfpossessed and confident, Miss Menehik went the rounds of the boards like a veteran, according to the critics, .making a very creditable score, in the circumstances, of nine;- victories, two draws, and two defeats...
