Extremely; complicated questions of precedence: and of. Mohanimedan law regarding succession have boen raised by the petition of the Begum of Bhopal that her third, and only surviving, son' Colonel^. Nawabzada• Hamidullah Khan; should be: regarded as her- rightful heir to the throne instead of her eldest grandson.; It is officially stated that no ifinal decision has yet been reached, states ;. the diplomatic correspondent of "The Tinies/' The Begum originally petitioned • the Viceroy in the early half of. last year.. Her petition was forwarded with certain recommendations by Lord Reading to the Secretary of State for India for his consideration. Correspondence is still being carried on between the India Office and the Viceroy \ rega; ding the points raised. , It is understood that, although Hamidullah Khan is considered to be an extremely competent administrator and well fitted in every way to rule the State, a hasty decision on the question of his succession might, raise undesirable issues and claims in; other native States. In the meantime the Begum remains in : England: and is v.-orking actively on behalf of her petition. . .'..'""'
