AUCKLAND, This Day.
Beports published by English papers seeming to presage a rise in the price of tea, prompted inquiry as' to the information at the disposal of Auckland merchants in regard to the, position and prospects of the tea market. The general opinion appears to be that, though the increases in cost to themselves would warrant and even call for an increase in their charges to ret. 11----ers and by them to the consumers, hone of the pominion houses was likely to take the initiative in' such i movement. "All packet teas put out by reputable in the Dominion should be increased in price," said the manager of one warehouse, •'' taking into consideration the present i . >orted cost of tea as compared with that of 12 or 18 months ago. All teas', irrespective of quality, have advanced in prkc on an average not less than 20 per cent, in that period. That means an increase on Ceylon costs (and it is Ceylon and India tea that most New Zealanders call for) of 3Jd per lb." •
