PREMIER'S POLICY SPEECH.

BRISBANE, This Bay.
The Premier, the ■ Hon. W. M'Cormack, in a policy speech at Cairns, after comparing the financial position of Queensland with that of other States, claimed that tHe State's credit was very sound. He stated that the Government was endeavouring to increase the area of forest plantations and regenerate the 1 hardwood forests, T: j forecasted a widows and orphans' pensions, schemes, and tho extension of the motherhood and child welfare scheme, to the larger centres. He said that it was intended to increase payments to injured workers to the full rato of wage earned, but not exceeding the basic wage; also to increase payments to workers suffering from miners' pthiais and othe occupational diseases, and to provide for workers' homes and dwellings on a more generous scale.
The Government was prepared, he said, if the Commonwealth Government co-operated, financially to assist the development of the cotton industry.
