RECIPE FOR BILLY BREAD
3 cups flour, 1% cups milk or water, 2 cups wheat meal, i teaspoons baking powder, 1 tablespoon syrup, 1 teaspoon salt. Mix dry ingredients, add the syrup (heated), then add milk. Mix to a stiff dough. Place in a tin (allowing room for swelling), and put the lid firmly ot. Bake in a slow oven for 2 hours. This quantity makes two lib loaves. Use lib tea tins for the purpose. You can also use a large round or square cocoatin, or a small-sized milk pitcher with lid. The lid is important.
