CENTRE TOURNAMENT

POST-SECTION PLAT.

Post-section play in the Wellington Bowiing Centre's annual tournament opened on the Thorndon Club's green this morning, when Noad (Lyall Bay) inet Thomson (Thorndon); The Lyall Bay rink was successful by 11 points to 15.

The game was an excellent one throughout and was closely contested. Tliorndon were" the first to score, getting* a single on the first heat!. Lyali Bay'replied with a brace, s and on the third head Thorndon notched a couple. At the fourth head Lyall Bay scored four. The 'thirteenth head was an unlucky one for Thorndon. At that stage the score was standing 10-7 in favour of Lyall Bay. The Thorndon rink was lying three shots, and Thomson, the skip, tried to draw another, but had bad luck as he gave the shot to the other side, making the score: Lyall Bay 11, Thorndon 7. At the twentieth head, both sides were equal, the; board reading 15 all: Howse, the Lyall Bay lead, drew the shot on j.tlij ■ twenty-first head, and Thorndoii'j d/forts to displace this bowl were unavailing, Hack, the Lyali Bay No. 3, drew another shot,' and the suburban rink was two up* 'when the*game ended. Owing to the death of the Rev. J. G. Chapman, .brother-in-law of W. Wiggins, who has.been playing lead for Thomsogi, during the tournament, the Thorndon skip had to play with a substitute' this morning. LOMAS v. NOAD. In the second round this afternoon Lomas (Kelburn) met Noad (Lyall Bay).; The score at the fifth aead was Lomas 6, -Noad 4. At the next end Noad got a shot, but Lomas replied with a single.- Kelburn got another single at the next head, the score then standing Lomas 8, Noad 4. The score at the. tenth head was 11:7 in favour of .Lomas. The Lyall Bay team were lying 2 down at the next head, which Lomas burnt.

The play of the Kelburn rink was superior to that of. the Lyall Bay team, partially due to good drawing by Lomas. At the thirteenth head Kelburn were 17 and Lyall Bay 10.>

The score at the thirteenth head was: Lomas 20, Noad lO.\. ;

ROBERTS v. BAVEN.

With six heads gone in the game between: J. J. Roberts (Wellington) and Raven (Lyall Bay) the score stood, Raven 5, Boberts 4.-Roberts got. another shot at the next end, thui equalising the score: 5-aJI, Lid,-;' die, Boberts's lead, played two fine;, shots,' but Gorman found the jack for Raven. G. S. Hill, No. 3 for Roberts, beat Gorman's bowl with his first, and with hie second drew the shot dead. The score at the eighth head was: Roberts 7, Raven 5. Tha score at the ninth head was 7 all. On the eighth head, Boberts was 4 down until Hill, with his first bowl, drew' the shot dead. \ Raven failed to displace Hill's bowl. Hackworth, Raven's No. 3, drew the shot for Lyall Bay on the 11th head, fix inches away from the: jack. Boberts, however,; played a beautiful'shot-i*v the forehand, and lay right on ti. jack. Raven's first bowl missed, bur with his second he actually touched the jack without, however, disturbing the lay of the head. Wellington -9, Lyall Bay 7. The score at the thirteenth head was 10-9 in favour of Raven. At the fourteenth' head/ Hill drew the shot from Boberts. With his first bowl Roberts drew another, and Raven went over the head. With his second bowl Robe.rts knocked up one of Hill's bowls, and lay three. The score was: Boberts 12, Raven 10. Roberts secured another couple at the fifteenth head. At the sixteenth head, the score was: Eoberts 16, Raven 10.

The third round is to be played" at 4 o'clock, the draw being as follows:—

The TUle regarding the time limit of 2} hours was enforced in the game bstween E. J. Hill (Wellington) and Lomns (Kelburn) in the eighth round Of section play yesterday afternoon. Owing to the very consistent play of Lomas^s lead and No. 2, Fihnegan, who was playing No. 3 for Hill, was called upon to burn'no less than six heads. At the 19th head'the score stood 15 all. Hill was lying 1, and in trying to score another knocked his shot bowl out, leaving Lomas 2 up. The umpire then announce^ that time was up. '
