"The first, day of "the New Zealand professional .championship meeting' was held on the Caledonian Ground to-day in beautiful weather. There was a large attendance, and some'fine runnio;; was witnessed. .';"
D. M'Lennan (Canterbury) added to his reputation as one of the finest runners; seen in New Zealand for a loni; time. past. He won a heat in the 100 yards in time given as 9 4-ssec, but this time must be open'to doubt, as, running against a fairly brisk breeze, he won the final even more easily in 10 l-sse<!. F. J. Grafton (14yds) won a heat and the final of the 220 yard* handicap easily, with A. A. Cameron (9%yds) second, and W. A. Cubit; (14yds) -third. Time, 23 2-BBee.

The mile championship was run twice, as on the first occasion it was found that the course was a lap short. Fortunately, the three placings in the first run were the same as in the second —J, IV Newlands 1, C. A. Bone 2, W. Archer 3.' Time, 4min 48 l-ssec.
440 Yards Championship.—B. Symon 1/A/AJ Cameron % O. W. Smith 3.
AV. K, Spillane (scratch), 100ft 3in, won the 161b hammer throw, with W. Murray (scratch), 95ft 2in, second. A. A. Cameron (scr), 21ft 9in, won the broad jump handicap, with J. Murphy (24in), 20ft.Uin, 2, and T. C. Lee (20in), 20ft 9in, 3.V ".■■.-
E. P. Q'Shca and Wells were first and second in the mile cycle championship. In this event Ward, Parker, Henderson, and Mickey fell .in the last lap. Wells, who. was then last, riding througu for.second!place. Time, 2min 33 4-ssec.
THe'three, mile championship was won by O'Shea, with Wells second and Mackey (Christchurch) third.
