THEOSOPHICAL SOCIETY
* ■ ■ The thirtieth annual convention of the New Zealand section of the Theosophical Society was opened in the Theosophical Hall in Marion street yesterday. The opening address was delivered by the general secretary, Mr. W. Crawford, who said thut this was the Jubilee Convention. Theosophy was now fifty years old. The former general secretary, Mr. J. 11. Thomson, had been sent by the New Zealand section to attend the great Jubilee Convention at Adyar, Madras, the Indiau headquarters of the society. At that convention the Theosophical Society was to be openly declared the corner stone of the coming Universal Religion. Mr. B. Yeates was elected chairman of convention. Mr. Crawford read the annual report, in which mention was made of the Vasanta Farm, near Henderson, Auckland, consisting of 114 acres, which had been presented to the society fourteen years ago, and then valued at £237. A member who was a trained farmer had given his whole time to working the place, which was now worth £3420, and carried a well-built cottage, besides the manager's house. The report also favourably mentioned the Vasanta School in Auckland, where the pupils were trained along theosophical lines," the roll number this year had increased. Mr. W. Crawford was re-elected general secretary and national lecturer, and Miss G. M.. Hemus was re-elected treasurer.
