DE LUXE THEATRE.
Those who saw "Spring Cleaning" when it was recently staged in Wellington by Miss Pauline Frederick, and thoso who only heard of it, cannot fail to appreciate "The Past Set," the newest picture story screening at the De Luxe Theatre. The film story has for its background the social butterflies in the rich homes of New York and the pleasure-mad crowds of the great metropolis. The story relates how Richard Sones is so wrapped up in novel writing that he allows his wife to drift into a cock-tail-drinking, cigarette-smoking, good-for-nothing set, but when he realises it he takes drastic measures to make her regain her self-respect. The cast includes dainty Betty Compson and Zasu Pitts, while among the male actors are Adolphc Menjou and Elliott Dexter, a fine combination. A number of new films precede the star picture, the gazette in particular being of,a most interesting character. The miisie, as is usual at this theatre, has received special care, and the orchestra, under Mr. L. D. Austin, plays delightfully. As an overture, "Czardas" (Hubay) is played, and a march, entitled "Festival," specially composed for the opening of the Duncdin Exhibition, provides the entr'acte. Incidental to the pictures are "The Lilac Domino" (Cuvillier), "Her Soldier Boy" (Romberg), and other light operatic selections. This fine programme will be screened again this evening, and throughout next week. ; ,
