Sir Henry Slesser, K.C., concluding a six hours speech at the trial of the Communists, said: ■" This is one of the most important cases submitted to. a British jury for mauy years. On their decision depends the liberties and opportunities of. men to write and express opinions for many years to come." Counsel for the defence called only one witness, who testified to purchasing at His Majesty's Stationery Officecopies of. a Government report on Russia. The defendant Pollitt also addressed the jury. He was refused pormissiou by tho Judge to quote from th'o speeches o*F the Earl of Birkeuhcad, Lord Carsou, and Sir William Joynson-Hicks, the Judge, remarking: "Wo cannot have their seditions mixed up with yours,"'
