REPLIES FROM STATES
MR. BRUCE'S REQUEST FOR PROTECTION.

MELBOURNE, This Day. Mr. Bruce has announced that he has received replies to his request for the protection of British sailors desiring work from all the States except New South Wales and West Australia.
Thß 'Victorian reply says the Government is fully seized of the seriousnasn of the position, and will be quite prepared to co-operate with the Commonwealth Government in endeavouring to cope with it in every possible way. The Queensland Government replied: "Your wire respecting the seamen's strike received."
South Australia says: "There is no intimidation oil British seamen in South Australia. The Government will take all necessary steps to prevent any breach of the peace." Tasmania says: "Should the trouble unfortunately spread to this State, the Government will take any-necessary and desirable action as tho circumstances arise."
