LONDON. 28th June.
Enormous crowds watched the final stages of the open golf championship at Prestwick. Players were frequently shepherded for lengthy intervals, while spectators were shepherded off tha course. When the American professional (Macdonald Smith) began he was accompanied by five thousand people, but he returned with a following of ten thousand. The scene resembled an army on the march, in which; worried officials wore carrying the standards. . Several spectators were hit by flying balls, but stray dogs were the'greatest nuisance One of these bit C. Whitecombe in the nand, compelling him to retire.
