PETONE DEFEAT SELWYN
On a heavy - ground at tho Petone Oval, Petone: defeated Selwyn by 16 points to 7. . The Petone backs handled the greasy ball remarkably well in the first half, but the game soon developed into a scramble between" the forwards, and brilliant Rugby was quite out of the question. Mark Nicholls left the five--cfchth. line-in the second spell and joined the scrum. Selwyn put'up-a good fight, but Petone had the better of tho game throughout. : The teams Were • as follow ;—

The handling was. excellent at this stage, and Petono were throwing the ball about well, when a passing rush started-by Parker resulted in Hawkins again scoring in the corner.
