SONG AT ITS BEST.
Mr." Gustave Slapoffsky, tie wellknown opera conductor and musician, who is to conduct the orchestra at the Dunedin and South .Seas Exhibition, passed through Wellington on Wednesday, en route to Dunedin, where he will consult with the committee on, the musical arrangements for the great show. He is then to return to Australia, as he is to judge at the big competitions at Ballarat in a few weeks' time. Asked for his opinion about Agielita Galli-Curci, Mr. Slapoffsky said very characteristically, "Did you hear Kreisler.play? Did you like him? If you did you will love Galli-Curci. She makes the same appeal as Kroisler,.- because iii respect to some of the finer qualities of the art of singing she is a complete mistress. Criticism I _ Oh, yes, there has been a lot of criticism, mostly by people who did not know.what.they,were.talking about. Madame Slapoffsky and myself got the greatest pleasure in all three concerts we attended in Sydney." .- -
