ACTIVITIES OF PAST YEAR.

The annual meeting of the New Zealand Club was held last evening, Mr. TV. A. Parton presiding over a fair attendance of members.

Prior to the commencement of business, members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the memory to the late Prime Minister., the Right Hon. W. F. Massey. The chairman mentioned that a letter had been sent to Mrs. Massey expressing the club's sympathy in her -loss. .-- .

The outstanding feature of the year, stated the annual report, was a luncheon in the Town Hall on 21st January, at, which His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral, Sir Charles I'ergusson, was the club's guest. The guests who were entertained during the year were:—Generalßramwell Booth, "Salvation Army; Professor J. C. Newlands, New College, Edinburgh; Mr. Dion Boucicault, the wellknown actor; Mr. tisdon Best, authority on Maori lore; His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson; Sir. Frederick Dutton, a vicepresident of the Royal Colonial Institute. Since the close of the club's year, Mr. Harry N. Holmes, the originator of the club, and now secretary of the Federal Council of Churches, New York, had delivered a speech which was very greatly appreciated by a large gathering of ■ members. At the close of the club's year the membership was as follows:—Honorary life members, 6; ordinary members, 315 ; absent, 3: total, 324. The statement of receipts and payments showed that the total receipts (including £60 2s lid brought forward from last year) were £261 18s lid. The expenditure amounted to £205 Is 7d, leaving a balance at the Union Bank at the close of the year of £66 17s 4d. -.

Li moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the president said that on the whole the past year had been a successful one. The luncheons and addresses, given had been well attended. Both documents were adopted. The election of officers for the ensuing year r<isulted as folWs:— Pittron, His Excellency the Governor-General, Sir Charles Fergusson (by consent); president, Mr. E. W. Kellow; vice-presi-dents, Mr. Marcus F. Marks, Mr. J. >:. Dale; committee, Messrs. W. H. Page S. W. Fearn, F. S. Pope, J. M'lntosh, J. Smith; hon. auditor, Mr. D. E. Beaglehole; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. G. .0. Sutton.

Votes of thanks to the Press and to those who had contributed to the success of the past year concluded the meeting.
