HOSPITAL BOARDS
MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION,

AUCKLAND, This Day. The first annual meeting of. the. .Hospital Boards' Association, embracing the whole hospital management throughout the Dominion, opened this morning. JMr. W. Wallace, the chairman, in his opening address, said, with regard to private wards and paying patients, he understood the feeling of the DirectorGeneral was that the matter could best be met by the payment of what would practically be honoraria to the honorary staff, though he understood each board would deiilwith the matter according to U.a V i.< M \Uxv circumstance* arising " in connection with the iiiuclio.il .service available in its district. .IJis. own feeling- tended towards a l"iilL..stipi-n<liarv staff if and whero practicable, "if wo are to build private wards we .should lin.ve the right to fix feus, and not permit any fee charged at the option of a medicai practitioner. Boards are mainly concerned with ensuring that patients receive the best medical services without any other ■•consideration, though they must co-operate with the Department in its wider outlook."
