STEFANSSON NOT ANXIOUS
PAETY MAY BE SAFE FOR A
.YEAR.
(SYDNEY SUN CABLE.)
NEW YOEK, 26th May.
Mr. Stefansson, the well-known explorer and author of "Tho Friendly Arctic," hi an interview, said; "I see no reason for anxiety regarding Amundsen for upwards of a year. For several months at least I will consider he has a chance of ultimate safety, even until we can get news from Point Barrow, the northernmost point of .Alaska, probably in the middle of July. If not heard from then, they liave one chance in four of being able to walk to Alaska, or other land, from the point at which they were forced to leave the aeroplanes. They have rifles and experience. My expeditions have shown that seals are obtainable under the ice anywhere in the Arctic seas. 1 have lived for months on game in the region of North Alaska. If Amundsen's aeroplanes are not damaged, one or both may appear at Nome or some other Alaskan port any day in the near future."
