DOES CONTROL APPLY?
DAIRY PRODUCE CONTRACTS,
References have been made at several meetings at which' dairy farmers have discussed the absolute control of exports of dairy produce to existing contracts made between co-operative companies and firms handling the distribution of the produce. It j 8 thought by some that the quantities of produce that will not immediately como under absolute control will possibly prejudice the market for that which is controlled. Mr \\. Grounds, chairman of the Control Board when seen on the point, stated that the Act provided for the-exemption of certain contracts that had already been entered prior to a certain date shall not be prejudicially affected by any action of the board. "There are, co far as I am aware," he said, "three contracts in existence that will come, under-this reservation, two of which are of comparatively small quantities, and will not seriously interfere with the workinjr of the control. The third and larger contract, that of the New Zealand Dairy Company, to which doubtless special re", fercnce was made, is satisfactorily provided for in the contract itself, the conditions of which cover all the essential positions that the board woujd need tc provide for, namely—the agent undertakes to secure tho same return as any other selling agents who sell under the conditions that are stipulated by the company, and to accept the same rate ot commission as other distributing- houses it has been suggested that the'eompanv that has entered into this contract w=i' be in a preferential position. As incicatmg the fallacy of'this assertion, the management o the company concerned has offered to hand over to the Control Board any interest it may have in the jnid contract lam absolutely satisfied that this contract will not affert the Tosition of tho Control Board."
