The driving of the Northland tunnel is neanng completion. . Simultaneously with the tunnelling work, a new length of roadway is being constructed above the tunnel in order to give access to a considerable area of property recently subdivided. This new roadway will also give an easier access to tho" council's housing block at Northland, and, though not strictly a part of the tunnel plan, yet was closely bound up with it, as an agreement was entered into by the corporation with the owner of the" property through which the tunnel runs for the construction of the road in return for land necessary for v the tunnel portals and the tunnel 'strata." The strip of land necessary for the roadway was in turn dedicated to the Corporation by the property owner.
