The Rev. C. Pitkowsky, of Wellington, leaves to-night for Christchurch.
Mr. A. J. Sinclair, of Hamilton, has resigned his position as manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company.
Mr. L. Denby, ■of the local offico of the Union Steam Ship Company, accompanied by Mrs. Deuby, is leaving by the Manuka for Melbourne on a holiday trip.
Mr. Murdoch M'Leod has been appointed senior inspector for the Canterbury Education District, in place of Mr. W. Brock, who retires at the end of the present month.
A Press Association message from Christchurch announces the death of Mr. Henry Murray, aged 70, for many years Assistant Town Clerk of Christchurch and City Valuer.
It is reported from Christchurch by a Press Association telegram, that, after being thirty years chairman, first with the South Island Trotting Association, and since 1901 with the New Zealand Association. Mr, P. Selig this morning announced his intention to retire, owing to pressure of other business. -
Expressions of regret at the death of Judge Cooper were made at the Supreme Court by' Bench and Bar. Speaking on behalf of Mr. Justice Herdman, Mr. Justice Reed, and himself, Mr. Justice Hosking said that clearness of speech and thoroughness and neatness of' expression served him in his eminence in practice at the Bar, says a Press Association message from Auckland. It was rather by quiet eloquence than by ineffective shouting that he succeeded in his efforts. Mr. Justice Hosking said he had sat with Sir T. Cooper in the Court of Appeal. There he was an industrious Judge, well equipped; and he had left behind decisions which had. gone on record. He was a kindly Judge to practise beforehand he discharged his duties in a manner which the Bench, the Bar, and the public could describe as faithfully and well.
