LONDON^ 19th May.
Mr. David Kirkwbod; Labour M.P. for Dumbarton, wi-itiiig in tlie " Daily Herald," asks: "May I have a corner to warn miners against going to New Zealand ? 1 have received a letter. from Mr. Alexander, W.ood; secretary of the Hikurarigi; Coal Miners' Union, stating that the,, mines t>{ New, Zealand are working short timd and workers are being dismissed wholesale. . G6vernro_ent-ass.isted migrants are meeting with .bitter disappointment, and there, is a grave ri^k that newcomers' may be used to ■ depress the level of wages. I.am fdso informed that the housing conditions in mining camps arc a disgrace to civilisation; many families living in tents and huts which are in an insaiiitasy. contlitipm; I would say to miners who are' thinking of going to New : Zealand, 'Think before ybii leap.'
