■J; '■' ••'. NELSON, 18tL May. : After fifty-one yeara, of faithful sarvice, Archdeacon Kempthorne, of the [Nelson Diocese, has handed, in his resignation to the Bishop of Nelson. The I people of the Nelson province hold Archdeacon Kempthorno in 'the highest : regard and esteem, and -will heartily echo ■ the sentiments expressed by his Lordship Bishop Sadlier •on his acceptance of the archdeacon's resignation The bishop said, in part:—"First of all. I want to say how deeply I have appreciated, your loyalty and Christian-fellow-ship fronythe day on which I jvas elected Bishop up to the present time. Indeed, I should be extremely ungrateful if ■I _ did not express to you my. most junfeigned thanks and* the. assurance of my. continued •.affection- •. arid ;• regard; Piity-one' years 'of continuous: service in the Diocese of' Nelson, is .indeed a noble record; and that service has been char-' acterised by the greatest self-denial, by earnest zeal for the Kingdom of God, arid by the highest ideals of mihistedaL duty. In all this God has Wessed you remarkably, with the cheerful assistance and de-' voted support of Mrs. Kempthorne and your isplendid'.'family.". In a letter to the Press- on the subject, the president of the league.. (Mr. W. J. Moffatt), who recently visited the Kxhibitjon;;buildings ' .at, ..D.unedin, says : "I was greatly impre'ssert with .the. magnitude of'the' undertaking,- which far .and away surpasses ' any previous ven-ture'of-the kind i^i this country, and redounds to the . credit *of ■. the publicspirited optimists who are handling tho enterprise, and who should receive the enthusiastic support of the whole of the Dominion.. ■.
