IN THE HUTT VALLEY
Memorial services were held throughout the Upper Hutt district yesterday. In/the afternoon the Presbyterian minister,' the Rev. J. Holmes, held a wellattended service at the Wallaceville Valley' Church, where he gave the address !he had delivered, at Upper Hutt on the previous Sunday, and the Dead March in "Saul", was played by Mrs. E l. Whiteman. In the evening, at Upper Hutt, Mr. Holmes took as : his subject, "The part that religion played in the making and shaping of the Prime Minister's character.," his text being Timothy 11. 4: 6-7.
At' St. John's Church, Trentham, special prayers were offered and the Rev. E. V. Kendrick preached from John 16; 23-24, with reference to Mr. Massey and tho necessity for prayer and. sympathy for the bereaved, and prayer for the guidance of our country in this time of difficulty. ■ '
Services were also held in Trentham Camp by Mr. J. 0. Duff, and by Mr J. Wilson in the Independent HaD, Up per Hutt
A special memorial service to the late Eight Hon. W. F. Massey was held yesterday morning at the Hutt Presbyterian Church. It I was conducted by the Eev. Dr. Pinfold, who spoke of the late Prime Minister as^a man with a deeply religious side to his nature, a man who was no self-seeker/ a sincere; patriotic, and friendly man. These thoughts were illustrated by a number of examples, including personal experiences. Deep and sincere sympathy was expressed with Mrs. Massey and the bereaved family. There was a good congregation, arid all parts .of the service, especially the musical, were in harmony with the occasion.
