NORTHLAND TUNNEL
■DRIVING FROM BOTH ENDS.
The driving of the Northland tunner has been commenced from the Northland side as well as from the Karori portal, and the work,."as far as tunnelling is concerned, may be completed within three or four weeks. No doubt a statement will be made at an early date as to the transport policy to be' followed for Northland.' Whatever system of transport is decided upon the general policy will be that it shall be capable of extension past Northland as it is at, the present time, probably running past the council's block of residential land at the back of the wireless hill, to join up with the service to Wadestown.
The Wallace street tramway extension is also approaching completion, the trade builders having laid one line up from the John street intersection and being now engaged upon the last touches of the second track and loops in John street.
■ Motorists who regularly use the Constable street route to and from the eastern suburbs have expressed appreciation that the tramways manager has acceeded to the request made that a flagman should be stationed to signal traffic over the length of Crawford road in which track renewal work is in hand. Even though signals are now given as to whether the way is open or whether other traffic is approaching, Crawford road is best negotiated with care, as the track work results in both up and down traffic running on the up track.
