WESLEY DEFEAT WAKATU.
After*the close call they gave Wellington the previous weel*, Wesley were counted upon tp put up a great game against the experienced Wakatu eleven, but not even the most sanguine of their supporters expected them to emerge .-vie-: torioiis by 3 goals to' 2. 5 From the opening "bully" Wesley assumed attack,' and vitliin ten minutes Freethy, the Wesley skipper, had. banged the ball'into the net twice. Each time, however, he waa recalled for an infringement, and no goals were allowed. Wesley had another good opportunity to goal soon afterwards, and this time;Watkinson made no mistake,; netting v with a smart shot. Play continued fast, and Boyes succeeded in adding another goal to Wesley's tally, while D. and W. Hood, who were getting in some fine; work in the loose, each scored for Wakatu before the spell ended. On\ resuming in. the second spell, the Wesley defence was severely tried on several occasions by. the White vanguard, but.without success. ' Wesley were working well together, the forwards receiving good support from the backs. Freethy shone out both- in attack and defence, and he was responsible for the last, goal, which gav^ victory to* Wesley by 3-goals to 2. Mr.Needham controlled the' game.
