KOROMIKO DELAYED

A refusal by the firemen to sail with the chief steward delayed the departure of the Union Company's steamer Koromiko for Newcastle for several hours yesterday. Tho vessel was ready to leave her berth at the Queen's Wharf at.3 o'clock yesterday afternoon^ but just before sailing time the firemen gave notice to the master of the ship that they would not put to sea with the chief steward. In order that the Koromiko might get away the chief steward, who had been on the vessel for nine months, advised the Union Company that he would sign off. Further difficulties arose when the chief steward's staff refused to sail if the chief steward left. The chief steward was permitted to sign off, and his staff carried out their threat and left the ship. Fresh men were secured to fill the vacant positions, however, and the Koromiko cleared port at 11.40 p.m.
