.. , WHANGAREI, This Day.' lh e foundation r stone of the Williams Memorial Church at Paihia, Bay of Islands, to be a hand&ome stone building was laid yesterday by Mr. Sydney f M1?m?;-,,* he oldest surviving member of the Williams family in the Dominion. Bishop Averill, Primate-elect, conducted the consecration service The church is being erected by the dependants of Archdeacon Henry Williams and Bishop William Williams; who settled at Paihia in 1823, and for many years_ conducted a mission among the -Maoris. The memorial also includes a trust established by the family to provide for a, clergyman to -work among the Maoris in the Bay of Islands. yesterday's ceremony was attended by seven grandsons of the missionaries and other members of the family. There was a large gathering of residents of the district and visitors.
