MR. J. 0; MALFROY NOMINATED
At a sitting of the local Board of Selection this morning it was decided to nominate Mr. Jules Omer John Malfroy, LL.B., as the Wellington candidate for 1924 for the Rhodes Scholarship.
Mr. Malfroy, who is 22 years of age, is a son of Mr. C. M. Malfroy, of the State Forest Department, Wellington, and was born at Hokitika where he received his primary education. After a year at the local Boys' High School he spent three years at the Waitaki Boys' High School, where he became a prefect and matriculated in 1919." Entering a legal office in Christchurch in 1920 he took up the study of law at Canterbury College, and in 1922 came to Wellington where he continued his studies at Victoria University College, securing his LL.B. degree in the minimum time. During the whole of his university career he earned his living in legal offices. He is_ at present taking a course at Victoria College for honours in law and LL.M., and is practising as a barrister and solicitor in the employ of the legal firm of Messrs. * Bell, Gully, Mackenzie, and O'Leary. He is well known to the Wellington public as a footballer and athlete, having' represented Wellington province for the last three years at football, and last year at the New Zealand amateur athletic championship meeting. He represented his college in athletics at the Easter tournament during the past four y-ears, and in 1923 was a member of the New Zealand University football team which went to Sydney. He has also been a prominent figure in the social life of the college.
