EDUCATING WORKERS

ASSOCIATION LACKS FUNDS.

The annual meeting of the Wellington Workers' Educational Association was held last night. Mr. M. J. Forde presided.

The annual report stated that the educational work of the Wellington district had been fairly satisfactory. There had been twenty-three classes, comprising advanced economics, elementary economics, psychology, sociology, modern literature, European literature, and appreciation of music. The receipts of the Wellington District Council, totalled £454 11s, and the expenditure £477 15s 3d. .

The chairman said that while the success of the classes, had been good, they still had the financial trouble to fate. If the finances ; did not improve they would have to consider the reduction o"f the number of classes. He concluded by paying a tribute to the work of the secretary (Mr. D. R, Kennedy). Professor Hunter, while admitting the outlook was not promising, believed it would be'a mistake to abandon any classes. It would be better for the committee and the tutors to meet and go into details and decide the best course to take..

On the motion of Mr. O'Kane, seconded by .Mr. Edwards, it was decided that the meeting recommend the formation of committees in the district to canvass for subscriptions. It was also decided to recomemnd to the council that meetings of the committee and the tutors be held, to consider the matter of finance.

Officers were elected as follow President, Mr. B. Yeatesj vice-president, Mr. F. Ji. Warner; secretary, Mr. D R Kennedy (re-elected);" delegates to District Council, Mesdames Forde, Baucke Messrs. M. O'Kane, W. Dawson, and E. J. Dyer.

The list of lecturers for the ensuing season include: Messrs. Vosseler, Harold Miller, Oliver, Ivan Sutherland, G. yon Zedhta Robert, Palmer, Cable, Professors Rankin Brown. Kirk, and Hunter.
