(STDNET SUN CABLE.) (Received 29th January, 2 p.m. NEW YORK, 28th January. A San Francisco company has bought the wrecks of the seven destroyers recently lost on the Californian coast for £300.
On Bth September last year seven United States destroyers were piled up on the rocks of San Miguel Island during a heavy fog. The disaster centred round the Arguello light, 75 miles north from Santa Barbara. The fleet, which consisted of nine destroyers, was hastening to. the rescue of the crew of the steamer Cuba, which had sent out wireless distress signals. The destroyer fleet is said to have lost' its bearings owing to a wiieless jam, though later it was alleged that an abnormal current had been created by the Japanese earthquake. The destroyers wrecked were the Chauncey, Woodbury, Fuller, Splee, Nicholas, Young, and Delphi, the latter being the flagship. Twenty-nine seamen lost their lives in the disaster.
