BILLIARDS
FINE BREAK BY M'CONACHY.
The New Zealand representative for the world's.billiards championship, Clark 1 M'Conachy, gave an excellent demon- | stration of his capabilities as a cueiet during last evening's session of his match with local players at the Windsor Billiard Parlours, his first visit to the tablo 1 providing sufficient guarantee that' his form is quite good enough to build up great expectations of excellent achievements when lie meets the world's best billiard players. By brilliant all-round play he ran up an exceptionally fine break of 559, and those who witnessed it saw nearly every possible shot that can be played on the table, with nursery cannons a special feature of the play. The break was one of the best ever recorded in Wellington, though the champion some time ago when visiting Wellington put on a break double that size. The termination of the fine effort ladt evening came about when M'Conachy essayed a difficult' masse shot. Subsequently the champion made breaks of 120 and 193, and his total of 1000 for the session was compiled on ten visits to the table, a performance of high class. During the afternoon he made breaks of 169, 108, 162, and 150, which were evidence enough, of his consistency. His opponent, H. Shanks, played really well, making breaks of 78, 44, and 35 during the afternoon, and a 63 in the evening, when scoring opportunities did not come very much in his way. The day's play ended with the scores as 1 follows:—M'Conachy 4000, local players' 4741. This afternoon the champion is opposed by A. Duncan, and the match will be concluded this ovening.
