BOY SCOUT MOVEMENT

SPIRIT OF ENTHUSIASM WANTED.

(81 lELBORAPH.— SPECIAL TO THE POST.)

AUCKLAND, Thi( Day. ■I he handicap under which the Boy Scout movement in New Zealand had suffered during recent years' owing to what.he termed "gross mismanagement by headquarters in Christchufch " was referred to by the Mayor (Mr. "J H. Gunson) at a banquet arranged by the Auckland Boy Scouts' Association in con. nection with Boys'. Week. The Scout movement, said Mr. Gunson, had suffered irreparably by six ycarS L misman»gement," for which Christchurch headquarters was responsible.' He said "irreparably," because during, those six years the movement had declined, and many boys misßed the opportunities and advantages of Scout training. That black chapter in the New Zealand Scout annals arose from the Stubbornness of those holding positions of authority they should never have obtained. Since changes had been made in headquarters, the movement had turned the; corner. This organisation was on its feet attain. All that was wanted vtits the infusing of the spirit of enthusiasm by scoutmasters, who already were showing remarkable keenness in an unselfish task. More scoutmasters- were needed also to cope with the growing numbers. r They should forget about the disappointments, of the: past-end : »neve- forward with the high aim of dbinij is great work for the future of New ZW land citizenship.'
