FIRES IN THE CITY

The Fire Brigade received two calls yesterday—the first at 2.30 p.m., to an eight-roomed house in Ferguson street, owned by L. Arcus and occupied by Alfred Watson. The kitchen, diningroom, and the contents of one bedroom were destroyed, and two bedrooms were slightly damaged. The building was insured in the State Office for £600, and the contents in the same office for £100. The second call was at 9 o'clock last night' to 89, Clyde street, Island Bay. The house was part of the Johnson Estate, and was occupied by the Misses A. and S. Johnson. The building and contents were totally destroyed. The insurances, which were in the Commercial Union Office were: Building £1400 contents £550. ,
