MOASCAR CUP
HAWKES BAY DECISION.
The controversy regarding the eligibility of the Maori Agricultural College for the Moascar Cup competition has been dropped until next season, the final episode for thei present taking place at the Hawkes Bay Rugby Union Management Committee's last meeting, when it was decided to leave the matter over until the next annual meeting. The New Zealand Rugby Union wrote stating that when M.A.C. was admitted to the competition a couple of years ago it was distinctly understood that the college was an eligible secondary school. Accepting the assurance of-the Hawkes Bay delegates, M.A.C. had been allowed ■to participate in the competition. Recently the status of the college had been questioned, and the Director of Education was asked for a ruling. His ruling was quite emphatic, and it was further pointed out that the application of M.A.C. for registration as a secondary school had been refused. This ruling having been received, the committee of the New Zealand Union had no option but to declare M.A.C. ineligible, and to reverse a decision that had been made under a wrong impression. The committee agreed that the continual debating of the questioa did not tend to harmonious relations, and that it was in no way responsible for the prolonged discussion.
Th e chairman said that that settled the matter. The college had been ruled ineligible, and the only question was whether they should take up the manner in which they had been treated. Members considered no good could come of their' doing that.
