THE DAY IN PARLIAMENT

The end of the cession is now near, and, that being the case, many members of the House pf Representatives are feeling that it would be a fine thing if Parliamentarians were paid overtime, for' they are putting in some- very long hours, even if they do spend most of the time iv slumber, leaving it £b others to carry on the good .work of "legislation by exhaustion." Yesterday -the House met at 1.30 p.m., and straightway resumed consideration of the Dairy Produce Export Control Bill in Committee.. Some of the clauses, particularly those relating to the method of electing the producers' board, and the compulsory principle, were debated. keenly, 'i'he Minister of Agriculture eventually agreed to allow the Agricultural Committee's amendment, providingl for the board being elected by the direct vote of the producers, to stand, and the Bill was finally put through all stages, but not before Mr. lsitt had roundly condemned the measure on the ground that it contained Socialistic principles which appealed to the "extreme Labour Party." In the evening the remaining items of the Estimates, Railways and Education, were disposed of, and the House adjourned at 2.65 a.m. until noon to-day. ■•.'■'-
