. MELBOURNE, ; This Day. SenatorDuncari complained in the Senate of the excessive cable rates to England, saying that they should be reduced from 3s to 2s-6d.. The Government's land telegraph charges were a monstrous. imposition, being 5d a word, or five times the New Zealand rate. The total rate could be reduced to tenpence a word.
Senator Pearce said he had decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Postmaster-General.
