- — i ■ The Prime Minister i s being asked by Mr. J. Edie (Clutha) whether he will take steps to amend the Electoral Act so as to make, it a criminal offence" to distribute any printed matter for, say, fourteen days before any election of a member for Parliament. "During the contest at last General Election a party made a most determined effort by circulating literature to destroy the prospects of a candidate who would not subscribe to their platform," says Mr Edie, "and by so doing the candidate had no opportunity to reply to the charges made against him, the candidate not having the time to retrace his steps."
